
Texas Brownies

I grew up in Texas so I have a lot of good 'ole fashioned Texan recipes to share. So expect more because Texas has some of the best recipes (especially dessert and bbq recipes) the world has to offer! -
Brownies
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup coffee, strong brewed
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- Frosting
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1-1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoon cocoa
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 milk
- Preheat your oven to 400F and grease a 11x17inch baking dish/pan.
- In a mixing bowl, combine sugar and flour.
- In a saucepan on medium flame, combine shortening, butter, and cocoa.
- Stir continually until boiling. Pour boiling mixture over the flour and sugar.
- Add in eggs, buttermilk, baking soda, and vanilla. Mix this well with a high speed mixer. Pour the batter into the pan and bake for 20 minutes. Use the toothpick test.
- While this is baking, let's make the frosting. Combine butter, milk, and cocoa in a suacepan on medium heat. Stir this continually until boiling. Mix in powedered sugar with vanilla and stir until very smooth.
- Cover your brownies in the warm frosting. Let cool an cut.
