Plane Cake Donuts
March 13th, 2007
This is a recipe that was passed down through the generations of my family. My grandma Jane used to make these every Sunday. I have the best memories tied to these little circles of heaven. - 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 cups flour
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar mixture
- 1 quart oil for frying
- You need a newspaper or paper bag ready to drain the donuts. Put paper towels over the top of that. Also prepare a floured surface for folding our dough.
- Get a bowl with an inch of flour ready.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer to 375F
- Sift sugar, salt, flour, baking poweder, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix in butter until it is crumbly. Now stir in your egg and milk.
- With (floured) hands, kneead the dough smooth. Turn onto your area of prepared flour.
- Get the dough to quarter inch thickness. Use a donut cutter or biscuit cutter that has been floured to cut out your donuts.
- CAREFULLY put your donuts into the hot oil. Fry them by turning once with a total cook time of 3 minutes.
- Drain and sprinkle with sugar.
