Plane Cake Donuts
March 13th, 2007
This is a that was passed down through the generations of my family. My grandma Jane used to make these every Sunday. I have the best memories tied to these little circles of heaven.
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar mixture
  • 1 quart oil for frying
  1. You need a newspaper or paper bag ready to the donuts. Put paper towels over the top of that. Also prepare a floured surface for folding our dough.
  2. Get a bowl with an inch of flour ready.
  3. Heat oil in a deep fryer to 375F
  4. Sift sugar, salt, flour, baking poweder, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix in butter until it is crumbly. Now stir in your egg and milk.
  5. With (floured) hands, kneead the dough smooth. Turn onto your area of prepared flour.
  6. Get the dough to quarter inch thickness. Use a donut cutter or biscuit cutter that has been floured to cut out your donuts.
  7. CAREFULLY put your into the hot oil. Fry them by turning once with a total cook time of 3 minutes.
  8. Drain and sprinkle with sugar.
